The engine runs the vehicle but then the speed entirely depends on the push of
the vehicle's equipped transmission. Both the manual and the automatic transmissions
primarily allow the engine to operate in its narrow range of speeds while providing
a wide range of output speeds.
An automatic transmission's impressive task is the locking and unlocking of the
different set of gears to the output shaft to be able to achieve the various gear
ratios. A device used for the possibility of this task is called the planetary
gearset. Early models of half-ton Ram 1500s came with a choice of three engines,
a V6 and a pair of V8s. Since then either a five-speed manual shift or a four-speed
automatic transmission was offered for these engines.
Then the later versions of Ram 1500s are available in either five-speed manual
and automatic transmissions or six-speed manual and automatic transmissions with
overdrive and tow/haul mode. Now, there's much more of the push and the speed
produced by the quality engines in today's Ram 1500s.
