Redesigned for 2002, this year's Dodge Ram comes out with fresh styling, two
new engines equipment, bigger cabs, and available curtain-type side airbags. Probably
the sleekest of the entire full-size pickup lineup, the 2003 Dodge Ram distinguishes
itself with two new packages: the budget-priced Work Special option package emerged
for 2003 with a gray exterior trim together with an Off-road Group for 4WD SLT
models. This includes all-terrain tires and skid plates. Moreover, the formerly
known SLT Plus adopted a new name, Laramie, for more top-of-the-line trim options
for 2003. However, not all Rams have been affected and the heavier-duty 2500/3500
trucks have to switch over to this new design. The former 2-door extended Club
Cab had been scuttled, switching into a regular cab and Quad cab. Both now come
in 3 trim levels, with either a 6.3 or 8-ft cargo bed. Little had changed with
the exterior dimensions except that both body styles gained 3 inches in length
and had a 40/20/40 split front bench seat. As very first features made available
for this full-size pickup, power-adjustable pedals and both front and rear curtain
side airbags are new. Also, the 3.7 liter V6 substituted the former 3.9 liter
V6 while the 4.7 liter V8 replaced the previous 5.2 liter V8 for all Rams.
